Residential extension and refurbishment of Grade II Listed London Building
This house, a part of a Grade II listed terrace, has an interesting history as it had been totally destroyed by bombing during WW2. Although it had been built with a façade which matched its neighbours, the storey heights had not been observed and in addition to some rather awkward rooms, with unconventionally placed windows, the mansard story had been omitted in the replacement dwelling.
The rebuilt property had been built into two flats and our brief was to remodel and extend the top floor property to provide and additional reception and bedroom accommodation. A planning application and application for Listed Building consent was submitted and approved for re-instalment of the mansard storey plus a complete internal re-configuration.
The property is narrow in form and imaginative space planning was needed to meet the client’s brief. This included the re-orientation of the existing internal staircase to maximise the revised internal layout and successfully access the new mansard extension.
