About This Project

New Build Low Energy House

Cowan Architects was appointed by a private client to design a new-build, low energy, family home in the Ashdown Forest Special Protection Area (SPA). This meant that the design and appearance had to be of the highest standard to gain planning approval. We had previously gained planning permission to extend the existing three-bed property into a five bedroom property for a previous client.

Our design comprised of a new-build, two storey main house and single storey wing with a single storey link, to replace of the existing dwelling and associated ‘Hovel’.

The building will be a timber-frame construction using natural building products and mechanical heat-vent recovery to achieve a highly energy efficient and comfortable home. The building materials will be sympathetic to the area and comprised of facing brick at ground floor and tile hanging at first floor.
