Cowan Architects won a Building Excellence Award for its design of two recently opened Paragon–Sprung Structures for Millfield School as a Cricket and a Golf centre. They caught the imagination of local industry chiefs and have been chosen as the winner in the Somerset Building Control Partnership’s ‘Educational Building of the Year Award’. The elite sporting school will benefit enormously from these two state-of-the-art facilities which include full length cricket lanes, fielding practice areas, a putting green and full-length practice bays. There are also changing, office and other facilities. The structures are totally innovative and Cowan Architects, working with Sprung’s UK partner, Paragon Structures, has applied this engineering masterpiece in the development of these two new, world-class sports and teaching facilities which have been designed to fit alongside existing facilities and sports areas.

The development includes:

• Energy savings of 54% over a typical traditional sports building
