Philpot’s Lodge is a substantial new-build four bedroom replacement dwelling measuring approximately 330m2 in floor area.
The site borders on the West Hoathly Conservation Area and is within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) meaning that the design and appearance had to be of the highest standard. We provided artists’ impressions to persuade the planners that the new house would not visually impose upon the surrounding neighbours and would be sympathetic to its environment.
The design of the building provides generous accommodation with all of the main living spaces and the two principal bedrooms benefitting from far reaching views towards the South Downs.
The proposals received planning approval in June 2015 and we are now in the process of carrying out the technical design and tender stages with a view of starting construction in March 2016. The building will be a timber-frame construction using natural building products and mechanical heat-vent recovery to achieve a highly energy efficient and comfortable home.
The building is detailed with a mixture of natural stone, full height glazing, local clay tile and composite cladding.
