The Orchard Building

Cowan Architects were appointed to work with Bedales School to expand their specialist teaching curriculum. Working directly with the contractors we developed the building, including a number of innovative design developments, including the extensive use of timber and large glazed areas.

The Orchard Building sits within the landscape creating an important part of the school campus. Additionally the building is designed to house administrative and support functions.

The building development had a number of key challenges including a live school environment, adjacent important trees, and a new approach to timber detailing creating the unique building.

The development included:

  • General Teaching Spaces
  • Specialist Teaching Spaces
  • Multi-level school street providing support and break-out
  • Administrative and Support Functions
