We provide architectural services for commercial and private corporate clients in the healthcare, housing, education and sport, leisure and hospitality, mixed-use development, ecclesiastical and office sectors.
We are design focused but commercially aware practice that offers commercial architecture services. We’re proud to work on small site developments through to larger more demanding projects. Despite the extra layer of complexity that comes with commercial projects we aim to create design led spaces that remain practical, in budget and on time.
Our approach to commercial architecture is to balance architectural creativity with practicality, and technical know-how. We work in partnership with our clients, ensuring we clearly understand and help them deliver the outcome they want from their sites, commercial properties, corporate and public sector.
We also work closely with other professionals to ensure a coordinated, controlled and efficient approach that delivers commendable building design.
MASTER PLANS, FEASIBILITY STUDIES AND PLANNING
We work with land owners, land finders, agents and planning consultants to evaluate and analyse the potential of proposed building projects.
BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING (BIM)
We produce digital models of buildings that help all stakeholders and team members better understand the finished building. We are working towards BIM Level 2 and are delivering several healthcare and education schemes concurrently.
DESIGN AND BUILD
Our MD has previously been a project manager and contractor, and as such we are uniquely positioned to understand the project requirements and influence design direction to accommodate the demands of the finished building; both working with the client and directly for the contractor.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND LEAD CONSULTANT
We have the expertise to help ensure different companies, teams and building components come together for an effective, on time and on budget build.
We are all trained by an independent CDM consultant, in order to support all our clients through the construction health and safety process as Principal Designer.
We breathe life, design and impact into buildings like restaurants, retail outlets and office space. We ensure design goes hand in hand with functionality.
Our team have extensive experience within the healthcare sector, including working with Architects for Health and speaking at healthcare conferences around the UK. We have extensive experience in leading teams and bringing together multi-disciplinary teams for the successful delivery of all our projects.
Cowan Architects have an extensively qualified and experienced team within this sector. Our team regularly participate in residential events, both speaking and attending; as well as advising or working with other partner organisations such as land agents, planning consultants or direct from residential provider frameworks.
Our team have delivered nearly 100 educational facilities of all sizes and types over the last twenty years, including currently working with Paragon Structures developing a series of centres for sporting excellence, that will be delivered across a number of Higher Education, Further Education and School campuses.
Ecclesiastical conservation work has been an important part of the Practice since its foundation 35 years ago, and our team has maintained a presence advising on the repair and alteration of churches for several decades. We have put our local conservation knowledge into good use at a range of notable churches including St Michael & All Angels in Withyham, St Thomas the Apostle in Groombridge, and St Margaret the Queen in Buxted.
Our team have created a number of hospitality and leisure schemes over the last twenty years, including currently working with Paragon Structures developing a series of centres for sporting leisure, that will be delivered across a number of education and sports campuses.
We have a specialist team of Architects experienced in Conservation and Heritage projects, for the last 35 years. We have previous experience of working with diocese, organisations like the National Trust and a range of listed buildings.
Our conservation experience in London and the South-East is extensive, working on a wide range of heritage projects, for example Standen, Isfield Place, Bateman’s and Scotney Castle.
With careful forethought and design however, it is possible to mitigate the worst of a building’s impact and have a net positive benefit in terms of occupant health and well-being.
We seek to position sustainability issues at the centre of the design brief and our projects undergo a checklist procedure to ensure that the best environmental practices are embedded in our schemes from the outset.
The future of the construction industry is digital, and BIM is the future of design. The construction industry is being revolutionised as digital technologies and new working practices change the way spaces and places are designed, built and maintained. Through BIM, the (UK) construction industry is undergoing its very own digital revolution.
