Contemporary Set of Apartments Spring Up in Sidcup

Phase One of a development of contemporary apartments in Sidcup, designed by Cowan Architects, has just been completed and have been put on the market. This is the first stage of a two-stage redevelopment for Willow House Properties in Blackfen Road, Sidcup and consists of six one and two bedroom apartments on the site of a former bungalow. Phase Two is proposed for 2020 with an additional 12 units in a similar design on the redundant church site next door.

The timber-frame design was a key feature of this project which allowed a swift build and a more sustainable property. It helped to reduce both construction time on site and therefore the disruption to the local residents during the works. The contemporary design was also conceived to incorporate solar panels as a renewable energy source on the roof structure. The pre-finished wall and roof elements of construction allowed for both 1st and 2nd fix trades to continue through the unpredictable seasonal weather conditions. It also offered a simple pallet of neutral coloured materials, using a combination of cladding panels and render to be installed, which also benefitted the build programme which was completed in only 9 months.
