Cowan Architects restore a listed terrace to residential properties in home town.

Cowan Architects has completed the beautiful restoration and conservation of a terrace of Grade II listed historic houses in Church Lane, East Grinstead, East Sussex, which had been knocked together in the 1960s to provide offices for a local firm of solicitors.

We worked with Mid-Sussex’s Conservation and Planning team to preserve the historic features of the houses, reinstating the plan forms of the individual houses, and making subtle alterations and amendments to improve the houses’ usability for 21st Century living.

At the back of the houses there is a ‘tin-tabernacle’, an historically interesting Victorian secondary church building which has been conserved and repaired as a multi-functional extra living space or annexe for one of the houses.

The Conservation & Heritage team at Cowan Architects has extensive experience in creating high quality family homes from challenging listed buildings.
