Jonathan is a Director at Cowan Architects and has over 20 years of experience in the residential and education sectors designing and delivering inspiring spaces and intelligent design solutions with existing buildings as well as new build- utilising the latest off-site MMC construction technologies. As a Director at Cowan Architects Jonathan is responsible for Project Delivery, fee negotiations, pitching & winning work and responsibility for the Technical Reviews and QA of the practice’s output.

Prior to Cowan Architects, Jonathan was a Development Manager at Clarion Housing Association’s Special Projects Team, developing small sites to test the latest Off-Site/MMC technology and suppliers.  He was also Head of Design and Feasibility with MDS, the design office serving Midgard (part of the John Reddington Group), a major housing contractor delivering large scale developments around London. Jonathan has since developed a broad technical skillset and drive for highly sustainable, well designed buildings.

Jonathan has contributed to ISO accreditation, achieved HSE Director level H&S certification, mentored staff sitting their Part III case studies and maintained repeat work through strong working relationships with clients and contractors.

Previous to this Jonathan was a director at Surface To Air Architects and delivered many schools and houses using MMC. Notable projects include Global UTC Academy at the Old Vinyl Factory, Riverside & Greatfields Schools in Barking and a 10 unit terrace of housing for London Borough of Camden to develop their off-site solution for housing provision on small pockets of vacant land.

Overall, Jonathan has a love of good quality design and a passion for delivering this through good working relationships.

Outside the office Jonathan plays the double bass, climbs mountains and walks the dog, all to varying degrees of success.
