Director | Architect | Building Regs Principal Designer (HRB)

Jonathan is a Director at Cowan Architects and has been a fully qualified Architect for over 18 years. He has worked primarily in the residential and education sectors for the last 26 years, and has extensive experience designing and delivering inspiring spaces and intelligent design solutions with existing buildings as well as new build. Jonathan has recently completed the RIBA Academy course on the new role of the Building Regulations Principal Designer and accepted onto the RIBA BRPD HRB Principal Designer Register.

Previously to Cowan Architects, Jonathan was a Development Manager at Clarion Housing Association, developing small sites to test the latest off-site technology and suppliers. Jonathan was also Head of Design and Feasibility with MDS, the design office serving Midgard (part of the JRL Group), a major housing contractor delivering large scale developments around London.

From 2015 to 2019 Jonathan was a Director at Surface To Air Architects, developing a specialism for off-site construction. Jonathan also helped deliver many high-profile cross sector projects with ADP in London and the award winning Zoo Architects / ZM Architecture in Glasgow. Jonathan’s work as a Director at Cowan Architects has included project delivery, fee negotiations, pitching & winning work and mentoring staff sitting their Part 1, 2 & 3 qualifications and maintains repeat work through strong working relationships with clients and contractors.
