Managing Director

Phillip leads the Cowan Team and has over 30 years of successful experience in the Construction industry. Starting as a Graduate Management Trainee with John Laing, his career progressed from Engineer through to Project Management with other leading organisations such as John Sisk and Bovis. Prior to joining Cowan Architects, Phillip had already enjoyed a close working relationship with Cowan’s through the design and build of several healthcare and residential projects whilst Managing Director of a local regional contractor.

Phillip’s business acumen and wider construction experience brings added depth and leadership to the Cowan team as Clients benefit from the added value and insight his experience brings to the whole build process, from conception to construction and beyond. His background offers him an alternative perspective that architect-led projects sometimes lack as he can offer an understanding of both worlds, translating the pragmatic needs of the client into the visionary designs of the architect. As well as being responsible for the Practice’s overall business strategy, Phillip places a high importance on client relationship management and pays particular attention to ensuring that Cowan clients receive the best service.

Phillip enjoys golf, sailing and gardening and has a keen interest in all things sociable.
