Extra Funding to Speed Up Building Safety Regulator Approvals

The UK government has announced an additional £2 million in funding to accelerate Building Safety Regulator (BSR) approvals, a move welcomed by the construction and architecture sectors. With over 100 high-rise projects currently stuck in the system awaiting Gateway 2 approval, this funding aims to tackle delays and improve efficiency.

The funding was announced by Matthew Pennycook, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, as part of a broader initiative to increase housebuilding across the country. The extra resources will help the BSR process applications more swiftly, reducing bottlenecks that have frustrated developers, architects, and planners.

At Cowan Architects, we have been at the forefront of navigating the new BSR requirements. Having worked on multiple projects that required compliance with the updated safety regulations, we understand the challenges involved. Early engagement with the BSR process is crucial to keeping projects on track, and we are committed to guiding our clients through these complex requirements.

This funding announcement is a step in the right direction, but efficiency improvements will take time to materialise. In the meantime, the best approach for developers and architects is to ensure early and thorough preparation for Gateway 2 submissions, reducing the risk of delays.

If your project is affected by BSR approval delays or you need expert guidance on navigating the process, Cowan Architects is here to help.

We continue to stay ahead of regulatory developments. We ensure our clients’ projects progress smoothly while meeting the highest safety standards.
